Triangle town gets bagel shop & downtown Raleigh development loses 2 more businesses
A bagel company just opened its first shop outside of Florida in North Carolina. And not just in North Carolina, but in the Triangle.
Jeff’s Bagel Run, which debuted its first brick-and-mortar in Ocoee, Florida, in 2021, is now open in Wake Forest, at 12534 Capital Blvd.
The company was founded by Jeff and Danielle Perera, according to its website. It’s named for the “bagel run,” an initiative Jeff started during the pandemic in which he would deliver homemade bagels to friends, neighbors and local businesses.
The bagel run was a hit, and eventually the Pereras were able to begin selling their bagels at markets and events, before launching the first retail store in 2021.
Since then, the company has expanded throughout Florida and into North Carolina, with plans to venture into Texas and Georgia.
At the Wake Forest shop, which opened in September, customers can order bagels in flavors such as blueberry, cinnamon raisin, plain, everything, poppy seed and jalapeno cheddar. Jeff’s Bagel Run also features sweet and savory spreads, plus coffee drinks.
Here’s what else is happening in the Triangle.
Multiple companies hiring seasonal employees in NC
The holiday season is coming soon, and several big companies have already started gearing up for the business with additional staff members.
Target, Macy’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Bath & Body Works are all looking to bring on more help this year. And while the positions are not necessarily seasonal, employment opportunities are available at ALDI as the German grocer prepares for the holidays and continues to expand across the U.S.
Some of the retailers will hold hiring events at Raleigh-area stores, where those interested can show up on designated days for an on-site interview. A few retailers are also accepting applications online.
Dessert shops expand in the Triangle
Two popular bakery chains are opening soon in Garner.
Nothing Bundt Cakes and Crumbl Cookies are setting up shop at White Oak Crossing, near Highway 70 and Interstate 40.
The company known for icing-topped cakes in mini, individual and large sizes is expected to open in October, a property manager for the shopping center told The News & Observer.
No opening date has been announced for Crumbl Cookies, which serves a rotating menu of specialty cookies.
That’s not all the cookie news, though. Captain Cookie & the Milk Man will open its second Raleigh location Oct. 5.
The locally owned bakery known for freshly baked cookies and ice cream sandwiches is expanding to North Hills. Captain Cookie first opened in the Triangle a few years ago, as a vendor at downtown Raleigh’s Transfer Co. Food Hall.
Kicking off with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m., the grand opening will feature:
- 5,000 cookies, including the seasonal pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin muffaroons
- An opportunity to win free cookies for a year
- An opportunity to win and purchase exclusive Captain Cookie merch
How to save money on groceries & household essentials
Several large companies have rolled out new brands and initiatives this year aimed at helping shoppers save money on commonly purchased items.
- Amazon slashed prices on thousands of grocery items, including produce, protein and pantry staples, for Prime members. The retailer also launched a new private-label brand, Amazon Saver. Many products under the brand — crackers, cookies, canned fruit, condiments and seasonings — cost $5 or less.
- Target’s new dealworthy brand offers apparel, accessories, beauty products, electronics and home items, with most items costing less than $10.
- Walmart is selling frozen foods, dairy, snacks, beverages, pasta, soups and other goods under bettergoods, a new private-label brand. Prices range from less than $2 to less than $15.
RDU Airport gets new restaurants from well-known chefs
Two locally and nationally recognized names in the F&B industry are launching new concepts in the Triangle.
One, from chef Scott Crawford, is open in Terminal 2 at RDU Airport, The N&O’s Richard Stradling reported. Dubbed Crawford’s Genuine, it seats 95 in a warm and inviting space, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and to-go pastries, sandwiches and salads.
The other restaurant is from James Beard semifinalist and chef Oscar Diaz. Formerly the chef of Cortez in Raleigh, Diaz will open a new Mexican food spot, Adios!, at the airport in coming months.
The chef is also opening a casual taqueria, Tataco, on Foster Street in Durham, The N&O’s Drew Jackson reported.
2 restaurants close at Seaboard Station
Two businesses at downtown Raleigh’s Seaboard Station have closed.
Sweet shop Mon Macaron and Tacos Mama Chava — the only brick-and-mortar for the taqueria — closed recently, The N&O reported.
Mon Macaron still has Triangle shops in Cary and in North Raleigh, and Tacos Mama Chava still operates its food trucks.
This follows news that record store/bar Hunky Dory is leaving the development for Raleigh Iron Works. Seaboard Cafe is also shutting down after decades in business, and Logan’s Garden Shop is relocating to the State Farmers Market.
Despite all of that, Seaboard Station continues to bring in new tenants.
