Construction will begin next month on a two-phase project to erect a new apartment building and luxury hotel near Raleigh’s bustling Moore Square.

The development is a collaboration between Williams Realty & Building Company and Summit Hospitality Group, two longtime Raleigh firms. The duo announced plans last week to build a seven-story apartment building, called The Acorn on Person Street, at 415 S. Blount Street, between South Blount Street and South Person Street.

The top four floors will house 106 residential units above a three story parking deck. Amenities will include a fitness center, clubhouse and fourth-floor pool.

“We are excited to bring new life to this undeveloped parking lot,” Owen Williams, a principal at Williams Realty & Building Company, told the News & Observer by email. “The Acorn on Person Street is a wonderful opportunity for someone to live downtown in a boutique apartment setting within close proximity to the vibrant Moore Square, Transfer Co. Food Hall and City Market (just to name a few locations).”

Construction of a Marriot TownePlace Suites hotel is expected to begin next summer on the western side of the same property. It will feature 138 rooms over seven stories. Public areas will include a lobby bar and expanded fitness facilities with integrated outdoor terraces.

“I think there’s a lot of great things going on around this project,” Alex Dillon, a development associate at Williams Reality & Building Company, told the N&O. “So we’re really glad to be adding to the mix.”

Other projects underway

The Acorn at Person Street is the latest in a series of new apartment complexes under construction across the Triangle.

In August, Tennessee-based developer TDK Construction and local firm Capitol Commercial broke ground on a $90 million, 365-unit complex called Vintage Raleigh West next door to Cary’s Drive Shack. The project should complete by the end of 2022.

A $300 million high-rise and mid-rise project called Salisbury Square with housing, hotel, retail, office and parking space is under construction in downtown Raleigh. Phase one is expected to finish in 2023. The buildings will include 333 residential units, including 63 workforce housing units with below-market rents.

In Durham, The Ramsey at 510 E. Pettigrew Street is nearing completion. It will feature 241 luxury apartment units ready for lease in January.

More than 30 major projects are in development just between Raleigh and Durham, as The News & Observer previously reported. For a complete list of developments underway in downtown Raleigh, click here. Downtown Durham projects can be found here.
