Longtime Chapel Hill retailer closing at University Place
Chapel Hill shopping staple Kitchenworks is closing its store at the University Place mall.
The retailer, which sells cookware, kitchen supplies and gadgets, will close sometime in the new year, after holding a store-wide sale.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the closing of my store in University Mall,” owner Martha Marsh Jenkins wrote in a Facebook post. “It has been a great honor and the privilege of my life to serve this community for the last 34 years.”
Efforts to reach Jenkins, as well as representatives from University Place, were unsuccessful.
In the same post, Jenkins said that the store’s website (kitchenworksinc.com) will reopen next year under new ownership.
Kitchenworks is the latest in a slew of longtime retailers in Chapel Hill that have closed in recent weeks. Village Plaza shopping center tenants Grimball Jewelers and Twig also recently announced they will be closing.
