The owner of a popular Raleigh pizzeria is expanding — but this location will have one big difference.
Michael Longo, who runs Vic’s Pizzeria on Glenwood Avenue and at Triangle Town Center, plans to open a new restaurant this spring or summer. Unlike the others, this one will be called Mikey’s Pizzeria.
“It’s going to be the first one,” Longo said in a video posted to Facebook on Thursday, April 30. “Hopefully there’ll be more. My concept here is going to be more kid friendly.”
Longo also envisions the restaurant as a spot where people can grab a slice of pizza for lunch or make food together on date nights. Here’s what we know about the new Raleigh business, including when and where it is expected to open.
New pizza shop coming soon
Mikey’s Pizzeria is planned for 2320 Bale St., off Wake Forest Road and roughly 1 mile southwest from the Costco store in Raleigh. The restaurant will launch at the McNeill Pointe shopping plaza, in the former home of Pizza & Pints, Longo said on Facebook and told The News & Observer in a Wednesday, May 6 phone interview.
Nearby, Longo once ran Bowstring Pizza and Brewyard. He recently kicked off his next chapter when he signed a lease for Mikey’s Pizzeria, which is set to open some time in late June or early July.
“I’m going to have a couple arcades inside for the children — adults as well,” Longo said in his Facebook video. “I’m going to have a little pizza station for kids to actually make their own pizza and eat it right there, fresh.”
Adding to the family-friendly atmosphere is a shared courtyard where kids can play. The 2,700-square foot restaurant has room for 40 to 50 customers, with more seating outside.
Longo said the Mikey’s Pizzeria menu will include pizza by the slice and 18-inch pies. He also plans to offer appetizers, sandwiches, chicken wings, beer and wine, with hopes of serving pasta at a later time.
Vic’s locations in Raleigh
The new restaurant will grow the portfolio for Longo, who has two Vic’s Pizzeria locations in Raleigh. In January, he plans to open a third Vic’s restaurant at 2241 Big Falls Drive in the suburb of Wendell.
Longo is adding to his family’s footprint on the Raleigh dining scene. His father and sister run Vic’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria at downtown’s City Market. Meanwhile, his brother owns Vic’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria’s Lake Boone Trail location and plans to expand to Six Forks Road, The N&O previously reported.
Longo said he went a “different route” with the Mikey’s Pizzeria name since there are Vic’s locations nearby.
“I don’t want to compete, so I’m going to do something a little different here, and kind of step out and do my own thing — away from the Vic’s name,” Longo told The N&O.
