A barbecue chain serving Texas-style brisket, pulled pork and sausage just opened its first Triangle restaurant.

Known for its patriotic decor and philanthropy, Mission BBQ began serving customers at its new Raleigh location Tuesday, April 14.

The restaurant chain first opened September 11, 2011, founded by Bill Kraus, a former Under Armour executive, and Steve Newton, a former regional vice president at Outback Steakhouse.

It now has restaurants in nearly two dozen states, including five in North Carolina.

Mission BBQ’s locations are decorated with photographs and other items nodding to the military and first responders. Each restaurant also plays the national anthem each day at noon.

“We believe there is nothing more American than BBQ,” the restaurant wrote on its website. “And nobody more American than the brave men and women who have sworn to protect and serve our communities and our country. We do what we do for the love of our soldiers, firefighters, police officers, first responders — all our loved ones in service.”

The News & Observer reached out to Kraus for more information about the Raleigh location.

Located at 7520 Creedmoor Road, the restaurant serves classic barbecue meats including smoked brisket and pulled pork, pulled chicken, turkey and sausage. Meat plates start at $9.50.

Customers can also order the meats in sandwich form, starting at $9.

Besides the typical barbecue options, Mission also serves ribs, half chickens, salmon and cheeseburgers.

Mission BBQ offers a variety of sauces, including NC Vinegar, described as: “Sweet. Salty. With a peppery kick.”

Most sides including Maggie’s Mac-N-Cheese, fries, baked beans, Kickin’ Collard Greens, green beans and Cold Slaw are sold by the serving, pint or quart, starting around $3.50.

Smaller portions of mac and cheese, ribs and sliders with a choice of meat are available for kids. These menu options start around $8.75.

The new Raleigh restaurant joins a shopping center with several dining establishments, including Outback Steakhouse, Orchid Japanese Restaurant, Bruegger’s Bagels, Burger King and Starbucks.
