The Triangle is saying goodbye to several food and drink spots.

While many new restaurants are opening soon, there are a few that announced closures around Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill this week.

Here’s a roundup of local eateries and breweries that are no longer open, for the week ending Dec. 5:

K&W Cafeterias

After serving Southern foods for nearly a century, K&W Cafeterias announced all remaining locations have permanently closed.

The Winston-Salem based cafeteria chain opened in 1937, and up until this week had eight remaining restaurants in North Carolina — including Concord, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Raleigh and Burlington, along with one in Virginia.

A post on Facebook said: “It is with a heavy heart that we share this news. After serving our communities for over 88 years, K&W Cafeterias will be closing all doors effective immediately. “K&W has always been more than a restaurant — it has been a gathering place, a home for Sunday traditions, and a warm table for millions of families across generations. We are deeply grateful for every guest who walked through our doors, shared a meal with us, and made us part of their lives,” the message continued.

Vicious Fishes

Vicious Fishes Brewery closed its Apex location after seven years in business. The location is pledged to a development group, according to the brewery’s team, and they’d reached the end of their lease.

“We always knew we’d eventually leave this site, but we didn’t expect it to be so soon,” Vicious Fishes announced on social media.

“Our lease was complete and up until last night we believed we’d be continuing on here. Sadly we could not put a framework in place to do so.”

This comes just weeks after the brewery shut down its downtown Fuquay-Varina taproom due to a rent hike.
