One of the most popular names in spicy chicken is opening a new restaurant in Raleigh soon.
Dave’s Hot Chicken is moving into the former BB’s Crispy Chicken in the Midtown East shopping center.
Larry Holcomb, the local vice president of operations for Dave’s Hot Chicken, previously told The News & Observer that the new location could open in August.
But the chicken chain just announced the official opening for Raleigh store. Here’s what we know.
Dave’s Hot Chicken opening date
The spicy chicken restaurant opens Friday, Sept. 5 at 2920 Sherman Oak Place in Raleigh. Its regular hours will be 11 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.
The Midtown East shopping center at the corner of Wake Forest and Six Forks roads is anchored by Wegmans and also hosts Torchy’s Tacos, Starbucks, Cava and Crumbl Cookies.
Dave’s won’t be the only chicken chain in the area. Chick-fil-A also has a restaurant near the Wake Forest-Six Forks intersection, and across the street, Guthrie’s is building a store — and it appears to be the Alabama chicken restaurant’s first North Carolina location.
The Raleigh location is Dave’s Hot Chicken’s third in the Triangle, joining spots in Wake Forest and Holly Springs. There are also North Carolina stores in Charlotte, Wilmington and Greensboro.
Dave’s Hot Chicken menu
Dave’s serves chicken in multiple ways — as tenders, bites and sliders available in the customer’s choice of heat level ranging from no spice to “Reaper,” which is so intense that it comes with a waiver and release of liability you have to accept when you order it.
Sides include fries, macaroni and cheese, and kale slaw.
What happened to BB’s Crispy Chicken
The Sherman Oak Place space was home to the original BB’S Crispy Chicken, a fast-casual concept founded in 2021 by James Beard-winning chef Ashley Christensen in partnership with MDO Holdings.
Christensen ended her involvement with the brand in 2023, and the Midtown East location, along with the Durham restaurant, closed in early 2024.
The restaurant cited struggles opening during the COVID-19 pandemic and shifts in the restaurant industry as reasons for the closures.
There’s one BB’s left at 1147 Parkside Main St. in Cary.
