List of NC restaurants with Michelin stars drops soon. Here’s when we find out
We now know when the Michelin stars will align over the American South.
The prestigious restaurant rating agency announced Monday that its new American South guide would be released Nov. 3. The unveiling ceremony will be held in Greenville, South Carolina.
“We are excited to honor and celebrate the talented culinary community of the American South in just a few months,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide in a news release. “South Carolina is home to southern staples, fresh seafood and a homegrown culinary community full of passion and innovation, making it the perfect place to celebrate the region’s culinary talents. Our anonymous Inspectors look forward to finally sharing their discoveries with the world.”
The new American South region will feature restaurants in North Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and absorb the existing Atlanta Guide.
For nearly a century, Michelin guides have helped culinary-minded tourists find and experience the very best restaurants in a given region. The guides have a large international presence but have been in North America for 20 years, starting with Michelin’s New York guide.
This will be the first regional Michelin guide. Without that regional aspect, North Carolina was unlikely to get its own Michelin guide any time soon, despite the state’s staggering restaurant talent.
Now, North Carolina’s top restaurants can be ranked alongside the best in the world.
“Michelin was always the highest level of recognition,” chef Scott Crawford of Crawford & Son said earlier this year in an interview with The News & Observer.
For the announcement, chefs and writers will be invited to the November unveiling in Greenville.
“Southern food and hospitality are the heartbeat of our flavorful, inviting, and diverse regional culture and identity,” said Duane Parish, director of the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism. “South Carolina is proud to host both the Michelin Guide and our regional partners with the local support of VisitGreenvilleSC. We look forward to the highly anticipated announcement of the inaugural American South restaurant selections.”
