A Raleigh taqueria is running a taco special created by chef Scott Crawford
A glizty new taco bar and a Triangle celebrity chef have a new tortilla-wrapped collab in the works.
Next month, the Raleigh Iron Works taqueria Little Rey will serve a taco created by restaurant neighbor Scott Crawford. Sales from the taco will benefit Ben’s Friends, a nonprofit supporting hospitality workers struggling with addiction. Crawford, who marked 20 years of sobriety last year, is active in the group.
The taco is charred octopus with salsa macha and will be on Little Rey’s menu for the entire month of March. For the taco, a grilled octopus tentacle will be topped with fiery salsa macha — Mexico’s answer to chili crisp — plus pickled onions and cilantro.
All sales of the octopus taco will go to Ben’s Friends, Little Rey said in a news release.
From Atlanta celebrity chef Ford Fry, Little Rey debuted late last year as the newest restaurant in Raleigh Iron Works. For Crawford, whose Croatian and Italian-inspired Brodeto is the flagship restaurant in Raleigh Iron Works, octopus is frequently on his restaurant menus, but this is his first taco in Raleigh.
The taco special is the first in a new charity series at Little Rey, which plans to put a new fundraising taco on the menu each month. For each special taco, a local guest chef will create the dish and pick the charity it benefits.
