Raising Canes is bringing its fried chicken tenders to Raleigh. Here’s what we know
A chicken tender giant appears to be opening a new restaurant on one of Raleigh’s busiest strips.
Raising Cane’s has submitted plans for a new restaurant at 2420 Hillsborough St., in Raleigh, the site of former Umami Asian Bistro and the historic Varsity Theatre. Other restaurants that have occupied the space include Porter’s Tavern and H-Street Kitchen.
The submitted plans suggest Raising Cane’s will remodel the inside and the facade of the building.
The brand opened its first Triangle location in Chapel Hill to much fanfare. The two-story restaurant sits near the corner of Franklin and Columbia streets and drew lines of diners for weeks.
The Raleigh Raising Cane’s would be the brand’s fourth North Carolina location, following other restaurants in Greenville and Camp Lejeune.
The fast food chain is wildly popular with college students and is often tied to campuses. Raleigh’s location would seem to fit that model, situated across the street from NC State’s main campus.
“Historically, college students love us, and now we can’t wait to show UNC students what our ONE LOVE — craveable chicken finger meals — is all about,” a company spokesperson told The News & Observer in 2023 ahead of the opening in Chapel Hill.
Raising Cane’s purchased their restaurant space in Chapel Hill, but it doesn’t appear the building at 2420 Hillsborough Street has changed hands.
We have an email out to the company asking for more details on the possible Raleigh Raising Cane’s. We’ll update our story when we hear back.
