Roach droppings & pot of moldy food found in Triangle restaurant kitchen: Scores (Jan. 28)
The News & Observer publishes a weekly roundup of restaurant sanitation scores to keep you up-to-date on the health grades at Triangle dining spots.
Sanitation scores and their corresponding letter grades are used in North Carolina to assess restaurants’ adherence to rules and standards intended to mitigate and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.
You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants you’ve visited, and The N&O previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated.
Here are sanitation scores in Triangle counties for the week of Jan. 21-27.
Wake County sanitation scores
The Wake County inspection management system shows that 84 restaurant inspections were completed Jan. 21-27.
Most restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.
Three restaurants received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.
Bass Lake Draft House (124 Bass Lake Rd. in Holly Springs) received a score of 87% during an inspection on Monday, Jan. 27.
The restaurant was in violation of 10 standards.
Violations included the person in charge seen handling ready-to-eat hamburger buns without gloves on, roach activity observed throughout the facility and underneath the three compartment sink and at the cook line. There was also visible evidence that the employee restroom toilet overflowed onto floors.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 96% in August 2024 and 97% in December 2023.
Sushi Little Tokyo Restaurant (1401 SE Maynard Rd Ste J in Cary) received a score of 87% during an inspection on Friday, Jan. 24.
The restaurant was in violation of 12 standards.
Violations included a pot of moldy food inside the walk-in cooler, along with roach droppings at the seams in the wall near the preparation sinks and droppings likely from a mouse on top of the flour and sugar bins.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 92.5% in July 2024 and 91% in April 2024.
Jumbo China (404 E Six Forks Rd #183 in Raleigh) received a score of 84% during an inspection on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
The restaurant was in violation of 15 standards.
Violations included several pieces of cardboard stored inside a container of fried wontons, a single-use glove stored in a large container of fried wontons and raw beef prepped and sitting on the drainboard of the three-compartment sink full of dishes.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 87% on Jan. 6 and 93% in April 2024.

Durham County sanitation scores
The Durham County inspection management system shows 42 restaurant inspections were completed Jan. 21-27.
All restaurants received an A grade.
