Raleigh’s Oakwood Pizza Box plans to open a new wine bar. Here’s when & where
A new wine bar will open in Raleigh this year from one of the city’s great pizzerias.
The pizza perfectionists at Oakwood Pizza Box will open the wine bar St. Pierre in Raleigh Iron Works in summer 2025.
Owner Anthony Guerra plans a cozy 1,300 square foot wine bar and retail shop, next door to Hunky Dory record shop and the plant store Urban Pothos. Other Raleigh Iron Works food and beverage tenants include Scott Crawford’s Brodeto, Ponysaurus, Eastcut Sandwich Bar, taqueria Little Rey and the eater-tainment giant Jaguar Bolera.
While best-known for its pizzas, Oakwood Pizza Box has one of the city’s sneaky-great wine lists. Beyond the red, white and sparking options for dine-in, the Person Street pizzeria offers wine connoisseurs high end Italian Barolos, luxury and artisan Champagnes, French Burgundies and bottles from rock star California producers.
St. Pierre will have a 15-seat bar, plus an outdoor patio and a retail section. Guerra’s restaurant career has included stops at some of the Triangle’s very best, including Poole’s Diner, Crawford & Son, An Cuisines and his family’s Cary spot Bella Mia. Along the way, Guerra developed an extensive wine knowledge and palette, but for his wine bar he’s hoping to just have fun.
“You’ll see an eccletic mix of wines, we’ll show you new things and old favorites,” Guerra said in a phone interview. “The idea is to make it fun and approachable. I like mischief, it’s not going to feel like a gift shop in a museum.”
St. Pierre, named after a centuries-old wine producer in France’s Bordeaux region (and the Guerra’s very naughty family dog), plans to build on that wine reputation. Expect exciting wines by the glass, plus snacks and pairings in a lively setting.
“I would like it to feel like a house party and wine is there,” Guerra said. “Wine is about stories and people and vibes all coming together.”
