3 NC restaurants ranked among top 100 sushi spots in the US, according to Yelp
If you’re a sucker for seafood, you may want to check out two North Carolina restaurants that have been named some of the best sushi spots across the country.
Yelp compiled a list of the top 100 spots serving the best sushi in the U.S. — from food trucks to intimate sushi bars— based on a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews.
Of all the delicious Japanese restaurants, three in North Carolina ranked among the best of the best:
Umi in Hickory
City Market Sushi in Raleigh
Blue Orchid in Charlotte
Umi Japanese Restaurant (no. 47)
Location: 40 Cloninger Mill Rd NE, Hickory, NC 28601
Umi Japanese Restaurant, about an hour outside of Charlotte in Hickory, has been open for nearly 15 years. Though it’s a tiny space — with only four tables — the local restaurant has a big menu including traditional and specialty sushi rolls.
City Market Sushi (no. 83)
Location: 315 Blake St, Raleigh, NC 27601
City Market Sushi, ranked 83rd on Yelp’s list, opened its intimate downtown Raleigh restaurant back in 2017. Aside from the classic and specialty sushi — including spicy tuna, bang bang shrimp and the ultimate rainbow rolls — the local restaurant also serves crispy pork belly, truffle salmon, green tea crème brûlée and other small bites and desserts.
Blue Orchid (no. 84)
Location: 8170 S Tryon St G, Charlotte, NC 28273
Blue Orchid, which opened in 2020, is located in Charlotte’s Steele Creek neighborhood. The local Asian fusion restaurant, which was nominated as one of the best sushi spots in Charlotte, also serves tempura dinners, chicken katsu and ramen.
