A beloved Raleigh restaurant has left downtown. Here’s where to find its pop-up
The former Fine Folk space in Raleigh will soon host a new restaurant — at least for a while.
The beloved and influential Fiction Kitchen will take over the former Fine Folk kitchen and dining room this week.
The new Fiction Kitchen residency kicks off the pioneering restaurant’s move from its longtime downtown location to a new space in the Gateway Plaza shopping center.
Founded by married couple Caroline Morrison and Siobhan Southern, Fiction Kitchen has been one of Raleigh’s most popular vegan and vegetarian destinations for more than a decade. The restaurant closed its original location at 428 S. Dawson St. last month.
Fiction Kitchen will launch its pop-up version by mid-December, while the restaurant’s permanent space is built. That space is slated to open next year.
“We see this temporary move as an exciting chapter in The Fiction Kitchen’s story,” Morrison said in a news release. “While our roots are deeply embedded in our original location, this move allows us to serve our community without interruption, bringing the heart of The Fiction Kitchen to Gateway Plaza, alongside our neighbors at Union Special and Mordecai Beverage. We can’t wait to welcome our patrons with open arms and our signature plant-based dishes.”
For years, Fiction Kitchen has created vegan versions of popular dishes, seamlessly swapping out animal proteins with plant-based options, like a vegan “chicken” and waffles and a smoky soy barbecue, which has been featured in multiple national outlets.
Fine Folk exited its space in Gateway Plaza in October.
Find Fiction Kitchen at 2409 Crabtree Blvd., Suite 100 in Raleigh. Check the restaurant’s website and social media for a grand pop-up opening announcement, thefictionkitchen.com.
