A New York-based burger brand just opened its first North Carolina location in Raleigh.

Burger Village opened on Glenwood Avenue last month, debuting as the brand’s first location outside of New York and California.

Started in 2013, Burger Village is an organic take on the burger bar and includes a wide variety of game meats on its everyday menu. The restaurant was founded in Long Island and now has six New York locations in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan, plus a location in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

The owner of the Raleigh location is Shalini Bhatia, who held the restaurant’s grand opening June 23 at 510 Glenwood Ave., in the middle of the city’s busiest nightlife district. The burger shop opens in the former Blowfish Tacos space, which closed last year.

The Burger Village menu includes more than a dozen burgers, hitting on the classic beef with a somewhat thicker patty than usually seen in this current smashburger-crazed era.

There are also meat options like elk, bison, ostrich, boar and chicken burgers. There’s a Kobe beef hot dog, a grilled cheese with jalapenos and a BLT with a fried egg, among the other sandwiches. Snacks include fried zucchini, French fries, onion rings and tots.
