Raleigh’s Boulted Bread is moving out of its original location. It’s not going far.
The acclaimed Raleigh bakery Boulted Bread is moving.
Owned by Josh Bellamy and Sam Kirkpatrick, Boulted announced Wednesday plans to move out of its original bakeshop on South Street and into a much larger space around the corner in Boylan Heights.
The new space will be at 328 Dupont Circle in Raleigh, about two blocks or less than half a mile from the original location.
The bakery posted the news on Instagram.
“Just want to let y’all know that we aim to keep baking for you for a long time to come,” the post said. “Thank you for hanging with us through the years. At some point in the next many months we’ll move from South Street to Dupont Circle just a few blocks away. We’ll keep you posted.”
In announcing the move, Boulted posted a series of images on its Instagram account, including a video of Bellamy and Kirkpatrick sitting in chairs on a mound of dirt and rubble, raising two of the bakery’s morning buns in a “cheers” motion.
Since opening in 2014, Boulted has emerged as one of the top bakeries in the South, catching national press in publications like Food and Wine, which named it one of the county’s best 100 bakeries.
More recently the team behind Boulted launched Benchwarmers Bagels in the Transfer Co. Food Hall and plans to open Bright Spot Donuts later this year.
The move seems aimed at securing Boulted’s place in the future of Raleigh, which continues to see major development shifts in and around downtown.
“We’re excited to have some permanence in an ever-changing city,” Kirkpatrick said in an interview. “That’s been a major issue for a lot of small businesses.”
