Torchy’s sets opening date for Raleigh location. Here’s when you can get those tacos.
The taco dreams of some Triangle Texans are about to come true.
Austin-based Torchy’s Tacos will open its first North Carolina location in Raleigh’s Wegmans-anchored Midtown East development. A restaurant spokesperson confirmed the grand opening will be May 5, or Cinco de Mayo.
For the Raleigh opening, the first 100 people through the door will get a free Torchy’s T-shirt. That T-shirt is good for a free order of chips and queso each day for a year every time the customer wears it to the store.
Torchy’s first opened as an Austin taco truck 15 years ago and is now in the midst of a national expansion. Currently there are more than 80 Torchy’s locations spread over seven different states. The Raleigh location will be the first to bring the fast casual Tex-Mex spot to the East Coast.
As Texas transplants will tell you, Torchy’s is famous for its green chile queso. Its menu includes a wide menu of traditional and creative tacos, wrapped in corn or flour tortillas and including fillings like brisket, pork canitas, Jamaican jerk chicken and fried avocado. The margaritas come frozen or on the rocks and Torchy’s says they’re made with fresh fruit juice.
The opening of Torchy’s will fill out the Midtown East Development, which has built up around the Triangle’s first Wegmans grocery store since it opened in 2019. Torchy’s will be the development’s largest restaurant tenant, joining a CAVA location and Crumbl Dessert Bar, and will soon be joined by Raleigh chef Ashley Christensen’s fried chicken sandwich restaurant BB’s Crispy Chicken.
Torchy’s is currently hiring and expects to add 100 jobs at the Raleigh location. The restaurant is still looking for front- and back-of-house workers and bartenders.
Torchy’s is at 1110 Mercantile Drive, Building 6, Suite 120 in Raleigh.
