Red alert, Raleigh workers: Ashley Christensen’s Poole’side Pies is open for lunch

If you’ve yet to try Poole’side Pies, there are now a few more hours in the day. The Ashley Christensen pizza joint in downtown Raleigh will add lunch service this week.

The pizzeria with the pool party theme will sling pies from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, starting Dec. 4.

The full menu will be available, plus a few lunch-specific dishes, the restaurant group said in an email. In these December days, look for lunch-only options like a tomato, kale and white bean soup and an open face meatball sub, served on grilled bread and topped with housemade mozzarella.

Poole’side Pies opened in September as the sixth restaurant in Christensen’s AC Restaurants group, which also includes an events space and commissary kitchen to round out the empire.

The reigning James Beard Outstanding Chef in the nation has been planning her pizzeria since 2015 and actively working on it over the last year, including purchasing and renovating the building at 428 South McDowell Street, right next door to her flagship restaurant Poole’s Diner (as Poole’Side implies).

While the buildup to full service has been gradual over the past few months, Poole’side didn’t take it easy in the kiddie pool. It started selling pizzas the week of downtown Raleigh’s Hopsotch music festival and first tried out lunch service the Wednesday and Friday on either side of Thanksgiving.
