Couple Takes Their 90's Kitchen Back in Time to the '70s, and It's Truly Stunning
There's something inherently tragic about watching a unique vintage home fall prey to the cold, stark shades of millennial gray. Chances are, you've lived in a home that underwent that very transition at some point in the 2010s, and it's truly devastating to consider the beauty that's been covered up. We've witnessed the removal of antique tile, the painting of original wood, and the scraping of unique wallpaper. But once in a blue moon, there comes a slice of hope in the renovation scene.
Thanks to maximalists and retro lovers, the iconic aesthetics of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s are finally making a comeback. We're talking brightly colored kitchen appliances, "ugly" earthy paint colors, velvet sectionals, and that space-age vibe. If you're a fan of watching retro homes get the justice they deserve, then watch on.

The Couple Who Saved the Day
Scott and Layn from @swayhome.renovations on TikTok have been documenting the process of renovating their 1970s home. From creating their dream groovy dining nook to painting their entire ceiling olive green, this couple builds and designs everything from scratch. The result? A modern twist on the icon of 1970s interior design.
@swayhome.renovations wish I could see this kitchen in her prime but with the new design I think we might be able to get kinda close to see the vision come together follow @swayhome.renovations #midcenturydesign#1970style#homerenovation

For one particular room in their home, Scott and Layn's followers seemed pretty nervous. The couple's kitchen sported this incredible, bright orange tile countertop, wrapping around the entire room and even surrounding the stove burners. Thankfully, the couple decided to leave the tile be, opting not just to keep the orange tile but to refurbish it to look better and brighter than ever. Consider the millennial-gray kitchen dodged.
1970s Trends We Need to See Make a Comeback
While most of us may not be as lucky as Scott and Layn to have a fully retro orange tile countertop in our kitchen, we can still incorporate a few trends from the decade. And it's even possible to do so on a budget.

If you want to try implementing this aesthetic in your home, it's always a good idea to start with bold, earthy color palettes. We're talking the controversial avocado green and harvest gold. We're talking rich, natural wood tones contrasted with chrome and stainless steel.
There's more than one way to bring back the 1970s interior style, and it can start with a new shade of paint, wallpaper, or a new couch. Take your time, and have fun with it.
