While out on a run on June 18, @iam.taja witnessed the sweetest and most relatable moment between a mama skunk and her litter of adorable kits. The poor mom had her paws full with at least six little ones, though she kept a close eye on them as they crossed someone's front yard together.

As distracting as the baby skunks' sweetness may be, anyone who's had the pleasure of looking after several kids at once can relate to this hardworking mama's struggle. They made it to their destination eventually, but their sighting in broad daylight has many people wondering just how many skunks are in their yard each day.

Baby animals are just the cutest, no matter how stinky they may grow up to be. Luckily for Taja, baby skunks' scent glands aren't fully developed until they're a few months old, though they might still carry some residual scent from Mom in their fur. She didn't specify whether she could smell the family coming, but the smelly critters also had no reason to spray.

"Her looking back every four seconds because toddlers be disappearing the second you turn your head," had commenters like @gasolzyj14o feeling seen. That's mom life for you! As much as she clearly adores her kits, this mama must be grateful that they only stay with her for about a year.

Even if their bond lasts for just a few seasons, some of the baby skunks in the rear of the group will always carry a piece of their mama with them. They're practically her twins! Several commenters pointed out this adorable detail about the animal family, and now I'm obsessed with the baby skunks' markings.

"Motherhood is universal," @angiebragg2022 agrees. How beautiful it is that we can connect with other species on such a deep level by sharing the same familial role?

What to Do If There's a Skunk in Your Yard

Taja was fortunate enough to experience this adorable moment while jogging by someone else's yard, but having skunks in your yard is a different story. One wrong move can stink up the place for days! The good news is that most skunks simply pass through in pursuit of food, though they may stay a while if they find something delicious.

Keep children and pets indoors to avoid unexpected odor baths, and try 'skunk-proofing' the yard to prevent further visits. Motion-detecting lights, animal-proof trash cans, and fencing that deters digging can be effective ways to keep the stinky critters out of the yard for good.

No matter how smelly or pesky skunks may be, it's important to remember this is their home, too! Your wild animal intruder may just be a mama skunk looking after her little ones, just like the strong mama in this video.
