MSC Cruises launches its first Alaska season from new US home port
Just six months after launching its first cruises from Texas, global cruise line MSC Cruises marked another major milestone in its North America expansion as it began sailing from its first U.S. home port on the West Coast.
Seattle became MSC Cruises' newest seasonal home port as MSC Poesia kicked off the line's first-ever Alaska cruise season on May 11. The new sailings represent the next step in MSC's plan to increase its itinerary offerings in North America and introduce its unique fusion of European style and American comfort to more travelers.
"The arrival of MSC Poesia in Seattle marks an exciting milestone for MSC Cruises as we bring our distinctive blend of European style and American comfort to the Pacific Northwest for the first time. Launching in Seattle reflects our continued commitment to expanding our presence across North America and offering guests new ways to experience some of the world's most extraordinary destinations," MSC Cruises North America President Lynn Torrent said in a press release.

Refreshed MSC Poesia offers Alaska cruises with regional inspiration
Now through September, MSC Poesia will sail seven-night Alaska itineraries featuring visits to Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, and Juneau in Alaska as well as Victoria, British Columbia, plus scenic cruising through Endicott Arm fjord to Dawes Glacier.
On board the 3,200-passenger ship, guests can expect an elevated onboard experience thanks to the cruise line's investment in major upgrades to refresh MSC Poesia for its Alaska debut. The ship now features new specialty dining venues Butcher's Cut steakhouse and Kaito Sushi Bar, as well as MSC Yacht Club, the brand's exclusive "ship-within-a-ship" concept offering private amenities, premium service, and 24-hour butler service.

The ship's refurbishment also transformed the MSC Aurea Spa and MSC Gym Powered by Technogym, complete with a Gentleman's Barber, various workout studios, and the Top 15 Exclusive Solarium, a spacious outdoor area for Aurea guests.
In addition to refreshing onboard spaces, MSC updated the ship's culinary program to complement Alaska exploration with new Alaska-themed dining and beverage offerings created specifically for sailings in the region. Passengers will be able to savor hearty regional cuisine, expanded seafood selections, warming beverages, and Alaska-inspired cocktails throughout their voyage. The program even includes locally sourced provisions from the Pacific Northwest, including regional seafood featured throughout the season.
Onboard entertainment includes popular concert experience, Alaska-focused enrichment
MSC Poesia will also feature enhanced entertainment and Alaska-focused enrichment programming during its Alaska season. Headlining the ship's entertainment lineup is "Dirty Dancing: In Concert," a popular live-to-film production that debuted on MSC World America, the cruise line's Miami-based U.S. flagship. The concert experience features singers, dancers, and a live band performing in sync with the iconic movie.
The onboard entertainment lineup also includes a diverse live music program, themed parties, comedy performances, and family activities. Plus, to help passengers experience more of Alaska while on board, regional enrichment specialists will host expert talks, narrated scenic experiences, and interactive workshops inspired by Alaska's wildlife, geography, and culture.

As MSC Cruises expands into a new region, the cruise line is also expanding its support for marine conservation through a new partnership with marine conservation organization ORCA. As part of the partnership, an ORCA-trained Marine Mammal Observer (MMO) will sail aboard MSC Poesia during peak whale season to conduct research to better understand how whales react to the presence of cruise ships in Alaskan waters.
MSC's collaboration with ORCA will also support crew training and guest education. During each Alaska voyage, ORCA's MMO will host an onboard educational session for passengers, highlighting the research taking place and the potential positive impact of the partnership. Passengers will also have the opportunity to learn about ORCA's citizen science initiatives to engage more deeply with Alaska's marine environment.
