Floridians Demand Max Jail Time For Tiger Woods, Worried About Trump Ties
Floridians are firing off letters to the judge in Tiger Woods' DUI case, demanding that the golf legend get jail time and warning about his ties to Donald Trump, Us Weekly can exclusively report.
One letter came from a man claiming to be the owner of a prison consulting company in Florida. He outlined Woods' run-ins with the law over the past 10 years, including the athlete's 2017 DUI arrest. (Woods was arrested after being found asleep at the wheel with a mix of prescription drugs in his system. He ended up pleading guilty to reckless driving and avoided jail time).
"This pattern is alarming," the letter filed on May 4 read. "The purpose of sentencing is also deterrence, public safety, accountability, and prevention before someone is killed. This may be one of the last opportunities to stop this pattern before an innocent person is seriously injured or killed on a public roadway."
The man urged the judge to issue the maximum jail sentence to Woods, 50, stating, "This case gives Martin County an opportunity to show the public that justice is not controlled by celebrity status, wealth, political friendship or public-relations pressure."
He noted that the golfer has several public relationships with "powerful political figures, including President Donald Trump," which the concerned citizen claimed makes it "even more important that the public see a fair, transparent, and independent prosecution… The public must know that President Trump, political pressure, and celebrity status will not affect the outcome of a Martin County criminal case."
Trump offered his support to Woods after the crash, calling the athlete a "very close friend." In body cam footage obtained by Us, Woods told officers he was "just talking to the president" from the accident site. Woods is also dating Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Trump's son Donald Trump Jr.
The man concluded his letter: "This is not about hatred toward Tiger Woods. This is about equal justice and public safety. Mr. Woods has already received leniency in the past. The public now deserves to see that Martin County will enforce the law fairly and firmly, even when the defendant is one of the most famous athletes in the world."
Another letter came via email from a radio personality, who offered his opinion on Woods' situation.
"His drivers licence [sic] should be revoked immediately and if he is caught driving again he goes to jail as he is a danger to society," the correspondence filed on April 28 read in part. "The judge will probably tell him he's lucky he did not kill a family, a child, or a pregnant woman before he is told to do jail time."
Woods' legal team declined to comment when Us reached out.
Woods was arrested and charged with a DUI on March 27, 2026, after a rollover car crash in Jupiter Island, Florida, that left his Land Rover overturned on a two-lane road.
The Martin County Sheriff's Office confirmed in a press conference that Woods was charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test after he refused a urinalysis. No injuries were reported.
Body cam footage also showed the golfer performing multiple field sobriety tests.
Woods pleaded not guilty and broke his silence by revealing that he was seeking treatment.
"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," he wrote in a statement posted via X. "I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery."
Woods continued, "I've committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."
Woods' DUI hearing is scheduled on Tuesday, May 12.
