Donald Trump and Melania Trump Honor Military Mothers at the White House

Mother's Day is this weekend, and the White House is celebrating early. President Donald Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, recently hosted the annual Military Mother's Day event in the East Room to honor, as the name implies, the mothers of military Service Members.

The First Lady opened the celebration, saying to her guests, "I often think about the brave people who make the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom." She continued, "It is these military mothers who find themselves alone, awake in their thoughts, in the darkest hours of the night. Of course, we must also remember the mothers with a spouse overseas, praying for a safe return so their family can become whole once again."

Who Attended the White House Military Mother's Day Event?

Obviously, the event's hosts, President and Mrs. Trump, were in attendance. Other members of the administration who took time to honor these very special moms include Vice President JD Vance, the Second Lady Usha Vance, Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, and Pete Hegseth's wife, Jennifer.

The First Lady spoke about the fallen Service Members of the 103rd Sustainment Command who lost their lives on March 1 at Port Shuaiba in Kuwait, "I realized that words cannot comfort the all-consuming grief that family members, and mothers, in particular, experience. Their loss is overwhelming. Although I understand the deep pride these families feel in their loved ones' service to our great republic, I cannot fathom the depths of their sorrow."

While the event honors all military mothers, there were a few special guests. The President welcomed Brittany Stevenson from Camp Lejeune, whose parents and husband are all Marines. Stevenson spoke briefly, saying, "This is such an honor and a privilege to be here. I'm truly touched to represent my family, the Marine Corps, Camp Lejune, and military moms and spouses like you all."

The Commander-In-Chief also invited Melody Wolfe, whose son, Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe, of the West Virginia National Guard, was shot and injured in Washington, D.C. last year, to the stage. Wolfe shared with the attendees, "I first want to say that we had the nation behind us at a time when nobody thought our boy would make it. He was 24 years old, he was a young man on the streets of DC." She continued, "He came home from the hospital April 2nd, and he is now enjoying being home. He's getting back into playing golf. He loves cornhole."

This exceptional event isn't the first time an administration has thanked the mothers of military members. In 2011, former First LadyMichelle Obamaand former Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden asked all Americans to show their gratitude to these special women on Military Spouse Appreciation Day!
