‘Elle' Teaser Shows Elle Woods Before Harvard in ‘Legally Blonde' Prequel
Before Harvard Law and pink power suits, Elle Woods was just getting started.
In the teaser for the upcoming "Legally Blonde" prequel series, "Elle," Lexi Minetree steps into the role of Elle, who was originally played by Reese Witherspoon in the iconic film franchise.
Elle kicks off her lavish birthday celebration at her family's Bel-Air mansion, where she declares, "I'm so lucky to have this life. I wouldn't change a thing."
However, her parents have other plans for the high schooler. Her father Wyatt (Tom Everett Scott) informs her that the family will be moving to Seattle for "a couple years" after he lands a new job there.
Elle doesn't take the news well, saying, “That’s my whole life" as she breaks down in tears.
“It’s a new city, with a fresh start,” her mom tells her, but she quickly realizes Seattle might not be for her.
"I'm feeling very blonde," Elle declares before her mom spots another blonde outside the school. After deciding the girl's roots don't meet their approval, her mom quips, "Yeah, I hope that's a choice."
Despite the rocky start, her mom reassures Elle, "You got this," before she heads into school wearing a pink dress and carrying a matching umbrella.
The upcoming series will chronicle as Elle "before she was a fish-out-of-water at Harvard. We meet her in 1995 as a fish in the tumultuous waters of high school where she encounters tricky friendships, forbidden romance, and questionable fashion choices," according to an official synopsis.
"Through it all, Elle uses her family as a touchstone, and forms an even tighter bond to her mother, proving that they can get through anything life throws their way as long as they have each other," the description continues. "With each challenge she faces, Elle grows closer to the Elle Woods we know and love today."
Witherspoon, 50, previously shared that Elle is out of her element in the prequel series.
"It's her junior year of high school, and her father gets transferred to Seattle," she told Bustle in March. "Sunshine and vibrant colors are traded for rain and grunge, and it's such a mismatch. It’s really fun to see Elle Woods as this fish out of water in 1990s grunge-era Seattle."
"Elle" premieres July 1 on Prime Video.
