A Raleigh man faces multiple charges after allegedly assaulting the mother of his child multiple times over the past year.

Travis Aoudeh, 27, was initially arrested Sept. 19 on charges of assault by strangulation, second-degree kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present and a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence in the Sept. 18 incident in Cary, according to court documents.

He was rearrested Wednesday on two additional charges of first-degree rape in that case.

Aoudeh attacked his ex-girlfriend in front of their toddler, strangling her with his hands and an electrical cord until she passed out, the arrest warrant alleges.

Domestic violence experts say even one instance of strangulation puts survivors at a high risk of a fatal assault in the future; one study found 43% of homicide cases examined included at least one prior incident of non-fatal strangulation.

Aoudeh was denied bail and has remained in the Wake County jail since his arrest, court records show.

But this wasn’t the first time he has been accused of assaulting his former partner. He faces charges in Durham County of larceny, a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence and false imprisonment in a July 9, 2024, incident, court records show.

A grand jury indictment accuses Aoudeh of attacking his then-girlfriend “while she was feeding her baby, grabbing her by the throat, dragging her out of bed by the legs, and pulling her by the hair while she attempted to flee.” As his partner tried to leave the apartment, Aoudeh dragged her back inside by the hair and stole her iPhone, car keys and passport so she couldn’t leave, the indictment alleges.

After the indictment, Aoudeh was released on $5,000 unsecured bail, court records show. Just over six months later, he was arrested again by Cary police.

A June motion by Aoudeh in Wake County court for emergency custody of their shared child was denied by a judge. Aoudeh wrote in his motion that his ex-partner had obtained a domestic violence protective order against him in 2024 and claimed his former partner was threatening to take their child back to her native country.

Aoudeh remained in the Wake County jail without bail as of Thursday morning. If he is granted bail and posts it, he may not contact his former partner or go to her home, school or workplace, according to his conditions of release. He is not prohibited from possessing firearms, however.

A disposition hearing in the Cary case is set for Dec. 12.
