The body of a person reported missing at Jordan Lake has been recovered, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Deputies and emergency personnel began searching near the U.S. 64 bridge late Wednesday night after getting information about the individual’s last known location, according to a news release. An unoccupied vehicle was located near the bridge.

The person, whose name was not released, was thought to possibly be having a mental health crisis, and no foul play is suspected. The body was recovered from the lake around 1 p.m. Thursday. The release did not say how the person died.

“The Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to the family during this difficult time,” the department stated in a news release.

The Sheriff’s Office received help from Chatham County Emergency Management, Lee County Emergency Management, the North Chatham Volunteer Fire Department and North Carolina State Parks, the release stated.
