A sinkhole swallowed part of a school bus Wednesday in Durham.

According to police, an off-duty officer saw the bus’s left side start to sink around 11:30 a.m. while parked in the 300 block of West Foster Street.

The officer thought one of the tires had gone flat, but it turned out one of the left-side tires had dropped into a 3-foot deep sinkhole.

No children were on the bus, but the driver was onboard the bus when the sinkhole opened. Police said no injuries have been reported.

After about two hours, crews were able to remove the bus from the sinkhole. Police said the bus was not damaged.
