Police identify man shot to death in Durham on Wednesday night
The Durham Police Department has identified a man found shot to death Wednesday night as Rodney Lewis Wicker, 46, of Durham.
No charges had been filed as of Thursday morning.
Officers were sent to the 2700 block of Cheek Road shortly after 6:30 p.m. They found a man dead in the street, with an apparent gunshot wound.
Police did not release any additional details.
Cheek Road was closed from Harvest Street to Junction Road for several hours.
There were 11 homicides in Durham as of June 2, according to the Police Department website, compared to 7 during the same period last year and 17 the year before that.
Over the last five years, Durham has averaged 30 homicides a year.

Wicker was released from prison one year ago after serving eight and half years on an armed robbery (conspiracy) conviction in Chatham County and a possession of a firearm by a felon conviction in Durham County, both in 2008, among other charges, according to the N.C. Department of Corrections website. His parole ended in March.
