Riddle Road blaze engulfs cars stacked together for recycling
A fire at Durham’s Foss Recyling left a pile of cars ablaze at the 1915 Riddle Road scrap metal recycling center.
The blaze was extinguished in 18 minutes and damage was limited to vehicles intended for recycling. No one was hurt and the cause of the blaze remained under investigation Thursday night.
Durham Fire Department Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi said the fire was spotted by the crew of DFD Engine 4 while the engine was being driven on Riddle Road at 8:52 a.m. Thursday.
It was unclear whether that crew extinguished the blaze or if it received help.
The Durham Fire Department posted photos of the blaze on its Facebook page online. The two posted photos are included with this story.
