Nyheim Hines has been on the run since the end of N.C. State’s football season.

The former Garner High star competed in both the ACC indoor and outdoor track championships and went through spring drills with the Wolfpack football team.

Hines finished in the top 8 in both the 60-meter and 200-meter sprints at the ACC indoor meet in February and was part of the ACC championship 4x100 relay team in the outdoor meet last month.

Hines’ last game on the football field was a memorable one. He broke off a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in N.C. State’s 41-17 Independence Bowl win over Vanderbilt the day after Christmas.

Hines, who was used mainly as a receiver last year, finished the season with 43 catches for 525 yards. In spring, he played more at running back, where he’s expected to have an expanded role this season.

Running back is a familiar spot for Hines, who capped off a record-setting career at Garner in 2014.

Like versatile teammate Jaylen Samuels, doesn’t really care where he plays, as long as he can help.

“I’ll play whatever position coach (Dave) Doeren needs me,” Hines said.

The N&O’s Joe Giglio caught up with Hines recently for “Five questions.”
