Durham police are investigating a Monday morning collision that left one person dead.
The crash involved a moped and a car at the intersection of North Guthrie Avenue and Juniper Street, according to police.
It happened around 7:45 a.m. when a 2016 Tao Tao moped driven by Harold Taylor, 59, of Durham collided with a 2018 Nissan Altima driven by Khedron Mims, 41, of Durham, police said in a news release.
Mims was driving east on Juniper Street and stopped at the stop sign at North Guthrie Avenue., the release said. He then pulled forward and stopped in the intersection, according to a preliminary investigation.
The moped, which had the right of way, collided with the left front of the Nissan Altima, the release said.
Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash.
Police charged Mims with failure to yield right of way and misdemeanor death by vehicle.
