A train struck a vehicle around noon Thursday at the intersection of East Pettigrew and South Plum streets, police said.

A black Toyota rolled onto the train tracks as the crossing arms came down. The front of the vehicle was struck by a Norfolk Southern train, which had attempted to brake, said Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

The car's female driver did not "suffer any obvious injuries," Michael said, but she was taken to the hospital.

No one on the train was injured.
