Man, 22, dead in Chester shooting; manhunt for shooter underway

Police in Chester are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Wednesday, officials said.

Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker said one person has died. Dewayne Allen Wilson Jr., 22, died in the shooting, said Chester Police Department Chief Eric Williams.

The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. in a home at 2513 Dawson Drive in Chester, near the intersection of Lowry and Jeter drives, police said.

The shooting location is east of the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, which is also located on Dawson Drive.

A manhunt for a suspect was started soon afterward, with a K-9 unit and officers from Chester police, sheriff’s office, and state agents. The State Law Enforcement Division assisted Wednesday night in the investigation with a helicopter, officials said.

Police have not released any suspect identification or any other information about the shooting.

Chester County has had at least 10 shootings since April, according to police and sheriff officials.

Five victims were shot in April in an 11-day span, police said. In May, three people were shot in five days, officials said.

SLED and federal agents with the ATF and FBI are assisting in the multiple shooting cases, police said.

One of the shootings in late August was a homicide, police said in a news conference in September.

The city of Chester has about 5,500 residents in a county of about 32,000 people.
