NC Lottery official on the integrity of the games
So many people selected the numbers of 0-0-0-0 in Saturday’s Carolina Pick 4 lottery drawing that officials are warning of long lines for winners to claim their prizes.
Lottery officials said 2,014 tickets matched all four numbers, amounting to a record $7.8 million in winnings for players.
The previous mark of $7.5 million was set on Aug. 11, 2012, with the numbers 1-1-1-1, according to a news release by the NC Education Lottery.
The 1,002 people who bought a $1 ticket with the correct numbers will win the game’s $5,000 top prize, officials said. Another 1,012 people who bought winning 50-cent tickets will get a $2,500 prize.
The lottery said the odds of correctly matching all four numbers in a Pick 4 drawing stand at 1 in 10,000.
Winners can claim their prize at any of six lottery regional offices weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Due to the large number of winners, players should expect extended waiting times to complete their claims if they choose to visit a regional office on Monday and Tuesday,” Saturday’s news release said.
Players have six months to claim their prize and must provide photo ID and proof of their Social Security number. Prizes also can be claimed by mail.
