A 48-year-old Morrisville man was charged Tuesday afternoon with 20 counts of statutory rape involving 15-year-old and 12-year-old girls.
Moises Laracuente-Aponte was also charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.
The charges cite 10 counts of statutory rape involving the 15-year-old girl and 10 involving the younger girl.
The accusations of taking indecent liberties with a child involve the older girl.
The incidents began Nov. 1, 2016, and ran through yesterday, police wrote.
Laracuente-Aponte was held on $5 million bail pending a Wednesday court appearance.
The 24 charges are contained in magistrate’s orders rather than arrest warrants. Magistrate’s orders are used when police bring someone before a magistrate soon after the crime with which the person is charged.
That may indicate that police believed they needed to move quickly on the charges.
It is more common for police to investigate a case involving charges like those against Laracuente-Aponte and to procure arrest warrants before taking a suspect into custody.
According to arrest records, Laracuente-Aponte works and lives in the Treybrooke at the Park apartment complex on Treybrooke Drive.
His home address was listed in arrest records as Rambling Hills Drive.
