Wake Sheriff’s Office identifies man injured in weekend shooting that left woman dead

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man critically injured in a weekend shooting incident as 47-year-old Edward John Mattison III, 47.

A woman whose name still has not been released was killed in what the Sheriff’s Office has called a domestic shooting at a home on the 6500 block of Sunset Manor Drive. The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday near Rolesville High School northeast of Raleigh.

Witnesses told police the man ran to a neighbor’s house for help and was rushed to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.

The woman was found dead in the home.

Police said the shooting was domestic in nature, but a motive has not been determined.

“I heard a voice say ‘help’ and multiple gunshots,” said a 911 caller at the scene. “I have no idea. I have kids in the house. I don’t want to open the door. ... My dogs are going crazy right now.”

This is a developing news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
