Raleigh man arrested, charged in Chapel Hill sexual assault case

The Chapel Hill Police Department has made an arrest in a sexual assault reported Tuesday.

Police arrested Kameron Dwayne Ballen of Althorp Drive, Raleigh, Wednesday, Oct. 11 on one felony count of second-degree forcible rape. He was arrested on Pinegate Circle in Chapel Hill.

Ballen is being held at the Orange County Jail under $200,000 secured bond.

A person is guilty of second-degree forcible rape if the person engages in vaginal intercourse with another person by force and against the will of the other person, according to N.C. General Statutes. The law also applies to a defendant who forces someone who is mentally disabled, mentally incapacitated, or physically helpless, and the person performing the act knows the other person is mentally disabled, mentally incapacitated, or physically helpless.

In a previous release, The Chapel Hill Police Department had requested the public’s assistance in finding a suspect in a sexual assault that was reported at around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The victim reported the suspect as a dark-skinned, black male, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and about 20 years old. The incident was reported in the area of Eastowne Drive, near U.S. 15-501 (Fordham Boulevard) and I-40.
