Aggravated assault case takes a deadly turn as victim dies of his injuries.

Rafael Gallegos-Montanez, the victim of a Sunday assault at a West Main Street convenience store, died Thursday as a result of his injuries.

Mr. Gallegos-Montanez, 57, was reportedly attacked in the parking lot of the Shell convenience store in the 1000 block of West Main Street at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 24.

Mr. Gallegos-Montanez, who was in possession of a bicycle, appeared to get into an argument with another man, was injured and taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Investigators have not identified the second man involved and have asked for the public’s help to identify him.
