Christopher Hughes, 19, of Fayetteville, died Saturday night from wounds sustained during a shooting shortly before noon Saturday at 604 W. Markham Ave.
Hughes was one of two people shot in the attack. The other was a 19-year-old woman who remains hospitalized with gunshot wounds that police said Saturday appeared to be life-threatening.
Monday morning police spokeswoman Kammie Michael indicated the young woman’s condition had improved, saying “her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.”
Nyreese Cole, 29, of Durham, has been arrested and charged in connection with the twin shootings and was charged with murder following Hughes’ death. He was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
“He is in the Durham County jail without bond,” Durham Police Department spokesman Wil Glenn said.
Investigators are still trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the shootings, Michael said.
