Garner man charged after teen killed in hit-and-run in Fuquay-Varina
Fuquay-Varina police charged a Garner man in a hit-and-run that left a 17-year-old pedestrian dead early Sunday morning.
A 911 caller around 5 a.m. reported a body near the 2900 block of North Main Street, the Fuquay-Varina Police Department wrote in a Facebook post. The body found was a deceased male.
The scene was filled with car debris, including a passenger-side mirror, that helped lead a patrol officer to the suspect car in a Walmart parking lot, at 1051 E. Broad St.
Police charged Nicholas David Bunch, 37, of Garner, with felony hit-and-run, the department announced on its Facebook page Sunday afternoon. The charge is listed as “hit and run serious injury/death” on the Raleigh/Wake City-County Bureau of Identification website.
The pedestrian, Gerlin Efrain Murillo Garcia, 17, of Fuquay-Varina, was also named in the Police Department’s Facebook post.
The incident is still under investigation, the Police Department said.
“We are currently reviewing all evidence and facts surrounding the traffic crash and will make a determination if any other charges are appropriate after the investigation is complete,” it said on its Facebook page.
