The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office identified a man whose body was recovered from the Cape Fear River on Friday as Reginald Donnell Ragston, 32, of Smithfield, WRAL reported Saturday.

Ragston had disappeared near the N.C. 217 bridge at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.

Ragston was reported missing after a group of people he was swimming with couldn’t find him.

The Erwin Fire Department led the search to find the man.

The department said it had no additional information Saturday afternoon, and a person answering the phone at the Sheriff’s Office on Saturday evening said to call back Sunday.

Erwin is roughly 31 miles south of Raleigh.
