Suspicious package removed from Durham Police Department
A suspicious package that forced a nearly five-hour evacuation of the Durham Police Department headquarters Monday contained no explosives or hazardous materials, officials said..
The building at 602 E. Main St. was evacuated from 10 a.m. until 2:50 p.m. after “an unknown person” dropped the package off over the weekend.
Eight law-enforcement or emergency units or agencies responded to the incident, including the Durham County Sheriff’s Office, which sent a robot, and the FBI.
Motorists were asked to avoid Main Street at Hood and Elizabeth streets Monday afternoon.
