Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools and Durham, Wake, Orange and Chatham county schools will be closed Friday. Johnston County plans to open school on a two-hour delay.
The majority of school districts in North Carolina, including all the ones in the Triangle, closed Thursday in advance of the arrival of Tropical Storm Michael. The area was lashed by heavy rain Thursday that led to road closures due to flooding.
A spokesman for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro district said schools will be closed Friday “because of power outages and road blockages.”
Durham school officials also said they canceled Friday because of power outages and road continues.
