Belief Briefs: Pastors retiring, VBS season here, 100 Men in Black concert

The longtime co-pastors of United Church of Chapel Hill are retiring, and a celebration will be held Sunday, June 11 in their honor.

Rev. Jill Edens and Rev. Richard Edens will retire this month after 38 years at United Church, located at 1321 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Chapel Hill. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 11, there will be a retirement reception to celebrate the Edens’ ministry in the wider community. Jazz pianist Michael Jones will perform, and refreshments will be served.

100 Men in Black concert for Father’s Day

DURHAM The 100 Men in Black chorus will perform Father’s Day weekend for a special concert that is also a fundraiser for scholarships and the chorus’ Canada tour. 100 Men in Black will perform at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 17 at King’s Park International Church, 1305 Odyssey Drive in Durham. The concert will feature musical guests Bishop Kervy Brown, Mimi Redd and the First Baptist Church Community Choir of Roxboro. 100 Men in Black wants to award at least $5,000 in scholarships to deserving young men. The chorus’ Canada tour will be to Montreal in June 2018. VBS, revival at North East Baptist

North East Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School from Monday, June 19 through Friday, June 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. nightly. The theme is “I’ve Got Talent: Ephesians 2:10.” Classes are available for all ages. Dinner will be served nightly.

North East Baptist is also celebrating Homecoming on Sunday, June 11 during the 10:45 a.m. service. Bishop Brian Tolbert Jr., pastor of First Church of God Christian Fellowship, Carrboro, will preach. North East will also host a Revival at 7 p.m. nightly June 14 through June 16. The revivalist is Rev. Rodney Coleman, pastor of First Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. North East Baptist Church is located at 3204 NC 55 in Durham. Rev. Claude Dunston is pastor. VBS at Christian Assembly Church

Christian Assembly Church will host “The Joy & Hope Circus” Vacation Bible School for children ages 5 to 12. VBS will be held from 9 to 11:45 a.m. daily Monday, June 26 through Thursday, June 29. There will be a grand finale at 7 p.m. June 29 with prizes and dessert. Christian Assembly is located at 5516 N. Roxboro Road in Durham. VBS at West Durham Baptist

West Durham Baptist Church, 1901 Athens St., will hold Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. nightly Monday, June 19 through Friday, June 23. The theme is “Glow For Jesus - Let Your Light Shine: Matthew 5:16.” The focus is understanding how to “transform the world by demonstrating Christian character wherever God places us.” The public is invited. Christ UMC to join Raleigh choir performance at Carnegie Hall

Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill is sending members of its chancel choir to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 11 as part of a 200-voice choir singing Michael Glasglow’s “Requiem.” Glasglow is music director of North Raleigh United Methodist Church. Christ UMC’s choirs are led by Daniel Steinert, director of music ministries. Christ UMC choir members have been rehearsing the 40-minute composition with the North Raleigh UMC choir. Glasglow will conduct the large choir at the Carnegie Hall performance.
