Man sought in robbery attempt

Durham police investigators are trying to locate James Odis Sowell Jr., who is wanted in connection with an Aug. 18 attempted armed robbery in the parking lot of Kroger on North Pointe Drive.

A male told officers he was putting his groceries in his vehicle around 1:30 a.m. when a man approached, stuck an unknown object in his side and demanded money. When the victim grabbed a rake from the bed of his truck and started to call 911, the suspect fled without taking anything.

Sowell, 49, of Durham has been charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
