Rain postpones Bulls vs. Columbus, doubleheader today
Sunday’s torrential rains, which spawned flash floods in Orange and Durham counties, also washed out the Durham Bulls scheduled home game with the Columbus Clippers at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
To make up the International League game, the teams will play a doubleheader today beginning at 5:30 p.m. The doubleheader will feature two seven-inning games.
The Bulls enter the doubleheader with a 51-32 record, while Columbus is 37-46.
Durham’s scheduled starting pitchers are left-hander Mike Montgomery and right-hander Merrill Kelly. Montgomery, who was supposed to start on Sunday, has a 4-1 record with a 3.98 ERA. Kelly, already slated to pitch on Monday, has a 2-0 record with a 2.50 ERA.
Columbus has added 31-year-old Boof Bonser to its starting rotation. Bonser pitched ini 111 major-league games, winning 19, between 2006-10 for Minnesota, Boston and Oakland.
He began this season with Fresno, San Francisco’s Triple-A team, and compiled a 2-6 record with a 5.87 ERA. Columbus is also scheduled to start Danny Salazar (1-2, 4.45) tonight.
The Bulls and Clippers will conclude their four-game series Tuesday night with a 7:05 p.m. game. Former Major League pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka is scheduled to start for Columbus that night against Matt Buschmann.
