DURHAM -- Residents in North-East Central Durham will have more help saving household energy, thanks to two new grants received this month by Clean Energy Durham.
The Piedmont Conservation Council awarded Clean Energy Durham $12,352 to hire and train a part-time employee to help encourage Northeast Central Durham residents to sponsor and attend energy-saving workshops.
The state awarded Clean Energy Durham $85,945 to hire and train two N.C. Central University undergraduates to work part-time and one recent NCCU graduate fellow to work full-time in North-East Central Durham over the next academic year. The following year, the graduate fellow will be placed in the Cooperative Extension office in Warrenton to help bring the Clean Energy Durham model to Warren County.
Clean Energy Durham is a nonprofit organization that helps create and support organizations of neighbors helping neighbors save energy. It has been working in 30 neighborhoods in Durham to build a model program that can be replicated in other communities.
"Clean Energy Durham has been helping the Northeast Central Durham neighborhood save energy since early 2008," said Judy Kincaid, Clean Energy Durham's Executive Director. "This funding will allow us to increase the variety of innovative approaches we are using to engage people in helping their neighbors save more and more money on energy."
