Wine Wednesdays begin today

CHAPEL HILL -- Starting today, West End Wine Bar at 450 West Franklin St. will host weekly Wine Wednesdays. Free samples of four different wines will be offered from 5-7 p.m., and those wines will be offered on special for the rest of the evening.

In addition, there will be a representative on hand for each wine to pour the samples and offer information. Non-Profit Roundtable set

CHAPEL HILL -- Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Aaron Nelson and Chamber Vice President Adam Klein will discuss with attendees at the Chamber's Non-Profit Roundtable results-oriented strategic planning and goal-setting.

The event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 14 at the Chamber.

Institute may get grant

CHAPEL HILL -- The Institute for Sustainable Development's Green Plus program has been accepted for consideration for Pepsi's "Refresh" grants program, which includes a public vote.

Votes will help the institute help small businesses become more competitive through becoming more environmentally and socially sustainable. Support the institute by clicking on http://www.refresheverything.com/greenpluschangemakers and leaving your vote.

An award from Pepsi will help the institute expand its Sustainability Fellows program, through which the institute hires and trains, and works with talented young people from a variety of disciplines to assist small businesses in assessing their business, environmental, employee and community performance.

Small Business Roundtable set

CHAPEL HILL -- Christina Gates of Yelp! will share with attendees how to harness the power of the Internet to market their businesses at the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Roundtable

The roundtable, to be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 7 at the Chamber, provides Chamber members with a free, non-competitive forum in which they can address current challenges for small businesses and share ideas and solutions. Gates will discuss the importance of consumer reviews in today's marketplace and will demonstrate how users can connect with current customers and clients online.

Magazine notes 3Cups, Panciuto

CHAPEL HILL -- According to Bon Appetit magazine, 3Cups, a one-stop shop for wine, coffee, tea and local food moved to bigger digs just over a year ago and added a wine bar, along with all sorts of tasting classes. Farm to Fork Picnic's May 23

HURDLE MILLS -- The 2010 Farm to Fork Picnic celebrating local food and local farms will be held May 23, it was announced.

The event, to be held from 4-7 p.m. rain or shine, will be at the W.C. Breeze Family Farm, 4909 Walnut Grove Church Road, just outside of Hillsborough.

In a unique collaboration, some of the region's most talented cooks will pair with Piedmont farmers to prepare a picnic-style feast that celebrates local foods and the people who grow and make them. The meal will offer the opportunity to taste farm-fresh food representing the bounty and diversity of the region, as well as a wide assortment of locally crafted foodstuffs including farmstead cheese, pickles, preserves, breads, pastries, beer, wine and cured meat.
