The city of Durham has a strategic plan. This plan has input from our citizens, our city staff, elected officials and other concerned people who wished to comment. The purpose is to achieve consistent and planned results for our city.
It is a framework to accomplish our city's priorities. This plan was developed under our city manager. This is the type of planning that our new school superintendent needs to be able to do. Under tight budgets the new superintendent needs to prioritize needs and get the students, parents and staff pulling in the same direction. We need a superintendent that has business and managerial skills and a respect for education. The Board of Education needs to be bold.

It is disillusioning to discover that David E. Price, the popular Democratic congressman, appears to be too busy to pay attention to constituents who aren't members of the "revered" class of heavy donors.
Two months ago I sent a letter to Price, addressed to his office in Chapel Hill with a copy to his one in Washington, D.C. After several weeks had passed, I followed it up with a postcard "thanking" him for his courtesy of a reply to my concerns.
Mind you, I wasn't expecting a marching band; a simple computer-generated response would have at least been an acknowledgment that I exist.
Perhaps I'll be too busy to select his name come the next election.
