DURHAM — State Bureau of Investigation agents continue to investigate the shooting of a Durham man last month that involved two Durham police officers.

Noelle Talley, public information officer for Attorney General Roy Cooper, said Tuesday that both officers “remain under investigation for this shooting. When SBI agents complete their probe, they will share their findings with the district attorney.”

The man, whom police have declined to identify, was wounded Feb. 27 and treated at Duke University Hospital for injuries they described as not life-threatening.

The man was shot after police responded at 1:41 p.m. to a report about shots fired in a southwestern Durham subdivision, near Juliette Drive and Rosaline Lane, about two miles north of The Streets at Southpoint mall.

Police said officers confronted a man who had a handgun in the 100 block of Rosaline Lane “and the male was shot.” The officers were Jose F. Cruz and Michael S. Bonfiglio.

Police have declined to say if both officers shot the man, how many times he was shot and on which parts of his body he was wounded.

The shooting is also being investigated by the Police Department’s Professional Standards Unit, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

Police said no charges have been filed.
